Case Study 1:
DMF Systems Deliver Electronic Discharge Summaries with Coding for Galway University Hospitals:
Galway University Hospital incorporating Merlin Park University Hospital services in excess of 100,000 patients yearly with 44 departments and in excess of 3000 staff.
In accordance with Galway University Hospitals Mission Statement (comprising University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital) of aiming to “provide high quality and equitable care for all its patients, in a safe and secure environment.”
DMF Systems eDS solution was chosen to ensure quality and timely communication on patient discharge from Hospital. This is vital to continuity of care, thus ensuring improved health outcomes, reduced re-admission rates and ultimately better use of scarce resources.
In keeping with Galway University Hospitals Vision Statement, DMF Systems was proficient in ensuring patient privacy through the delivery of our high quality, secured eDS system.
Galway University Hospitals (GUH) comprising University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital, with separate Medical Records decided that they needed to address the problem head-on. DMF Systems was selected by Galway University Hospitals (GUH) to provide Electronic Discharge Summaries.
eDS was added to their existing PAS system and allowed all the essential information on medical care, including coding, to be recorded at ward level and then to be communicated electronically to GP’s. Galway University Hospitals also used the eDS to address other challenges, such as HIPE Coding, which hitherto, was a fundamental challenge faced by the Hospitals.
Discharge summaries can be delivered automatically to GP’s electronically once the summary is validated. This process is done securely and logged within the system for optimal reporting. As coding is performed at ward level it ensures that accurate results are sent to the GP and to other hospital staff. DMF System's EDS product can be added on to an existing legacy PAS system, via HL7, hence it's selection by other major Hospital Groups.

Case Study 2:
Blackrock Clinic’s Medilink delivers web results for Consultants and GP's.
Blackrock Clinic in Dublin, is one of Ireland's most established private healthcare facilities. In keeping with Blackrock Clinic's Vision of “Clinical Excellence, Personal Care”, DMF Systems adequately provided a secure and effective solution. Blackrock Clinic Values the provision of “best technology possible”, which DMF Systems abundantly delivered.
For nearly four years, Blackrock Clinic has been providing consultants and referring General Practitioners with secured instant web access to current and historical patient results via Medilink.
John Hayes, the Clinic’s ICT Manager, contacted DMF Systems to solve their need for a secure electronic means of displaying inpatient and outpatient results, which could be accessed anywhere anytime. DMF Systems was chosen as they were already the largest carrier of encrypted electronic lab results for referral laboratories in Ireland with the MediBridge service.
“Initially there was a faster take-up by GP's but more recently, the usage is now about 50/50 between GP’s and Consultants from the length and breadth of the country and even in other hospitals."
We now have about 250 users and feedback has been extremely positive” he added. All laboratory disciplines were catered for, as well as all Imaging reporting, offering a single point for GP's to refer their patients for tests.
“It was now possible for a patient to present to their consultant, immediately after their imaging, with the likelihood that the consultant had already reviewed the results online” added John.
